Once again we are hearing of death and adverse reactions linked to an approved weight loss drug in this case the Sanofi Aventis weight loss drug Acomplia.

Sources in the UK have revealed that regulatory authorities for drugs in the United Kingdom have linked 5 deaths (including one suicide) and 720 adverse reactions to the anti obesity drug.

The report by the MHRA (Medical and Health Product Regulatory Authority) states that two deaths were linked to heart difficulties, one involved and infection one a sudden death and the other suicide.

The drug was banned in the Us last year after evidence that it may be linked to suicides but has remained available in part of Europe but this has renewed calls for it’s immediate withdrawal.

The drug generically known as rimonabant was approved in the European Union in June 2006 the drugs works by blockingt certain receptors in the brain to help regulate body weight, blood glucose and lipid metabolism.

This is another case of a weight loss drug being shown to do more harm than good and as always I emphasise that this blog does not recommend the use of any drug therapy for weight loss. If you want a safe and painless way to lose weight safely get my FREE Lose 10 pounds in 2 weeks
