According to popular Blog Healthy Hollywood American Idol’s Randy Jackson is joining the list of celebrities writing diet books. His book titled, The No-Nonsense Guide to Getting Fit, Eating Better, and Living Longer promises to hold the key to the new you.
This follows a statement earlier this year that record producer and American Idol judge Randy aged 51 had been diagnosed as type II diabetes and has struggled with his weight for a number of years.
It will be interesting to see how Randy who underwent gastric bypass surgery and has claimed to have lost 150 pounds a result tackles the subject. I for one would liek to have seen him lose the weight without the surgery as to how much of his weight loss is down to the new diet and how much due to enforced eating reduction via the gastric bypass remains to be seen.
Randy’s book is due to go to print shortly and is expected in bookstores in time for Thanks giving could it be a just the ideal holiday gift remains to be seen.
Now, it’s no secret that Randy had gastric bypass surgery in 2003 which helped him lose 150 pounds. As for keeping the weight off since then, I’m not sure what Randy’s diet and workout has been but I’m guessing he’s going to tell us. What do you think? Would you buy his diet book?
Does A Big Breakfast Hold The Key To Weight Loss Sucess?

The traditional home from breakfast it seems may be one of the key ingredients of succesful weight loss but before you start grabing the frying pan there are a few conditions that you’ll have to satisfy first.
It seems scientists can’t stop doing survey’s in the cures and causes of obesity which is expanding with an alarming rate across large parts of the world. Some refer to this as an epidemic but is that just a half hearted attempt to get people to listen and more importantly take some action.
Now a survey carried out in Venezuela has shown that lo carb whilst showing results quicker when it comes to weight loss longer term sustainable weight loss requires a diet high in carbs. Is this yet another contradiction of conventional views (or at least those who advocate lo carbs weight loss).
These scientists discovered that those who ate a substancial breakfast were able to eat less between meals and experienced few hunger pangs before lunch. Whereas those who adopted a lo carb regimen experienced the sense of feeling hungry and wanting to eat.
Provided it is grilled the ideal breakfast is one which consists of bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, mushrooms and tomatos which provided quality products are used is low in fat and high in protein which encourages the metabolism.
The study showed that initially 94% of women on the lo-carb diet lost weight but over an extended period they almost all regained their weight when compared with those on the ‘Big Breakfast Diet’.
So whats next maybe Mcdonalds will be coming up with the ultimate Big Breakfast or perhaps they’ll leave it to IHOP or The Waffle House or the other major Diner chains spread across America.
I am still not convinced (if we accept this finding as one of value) we will see most Americans choosing the healthy (grilled option) and also portion control needs some work for most establishments…
But maybe there is some light at the end of the very dark tunnel for changing the AVERAGE AMERICANS diet and eating habits.
I wouldn’t hold my breath but watch this spce for updates.
Smoothies Will Make You Fat - Shocking Revelation on F Word!
July 21, 2008 by Graham Foster · 1 Comment
Recently in a episode of the popular TV show the ‘F Word’ featuring celebrity out spoken Chef Gordon Ramsey it was revealed that drinking smoothies can actually make you fat and that the levels of sugar in a smoothie can in fact be higher than many popular soda drinks.
This may shock some of you but when you think about it not really consider a typical smoothie which may contain several pieces of fruit (berries, banana’s etc) which are then blended in blender to provide a tasty drink pack full of vitamins and nutrition.
But what many people forget is that smoothies are packed full of fruit which is packed full of sugar … (well not sugar you put in your tea of coffee ) but fruit sugar or fructose. Whilst we are all encourgaged to eat 5 fruit and vegetable portions as part of a healthy diet what is forgotten is the levels of sugar in fresh fruit and even in some vegetables.
Getting the balance right is difficult between healthy eating and taking in to much sugar and it has also been suggested that eating omuch fruit can lead to diabetes which leaves us in some what of a quandry doesn’t it?
My advice is to cut out the smoothies and stick to the fruit as the fibre in the whole fruit helps balance things better nutritionally. But if you can’t do without your daily smoothie fix buy some mineral water and dilute at say 1/3 fruit smoothie and 2/3 water or sparkling water. Not only is this more refreshing but you’ll have cut your sugar (fructose) intake dramatically.
