I don’t know about you but I find going to the gym and working out can get seriously monotonous. The same machines, the same steps on the treadmill, it gets so boring. Apart from changing gyms, what can you do? Is there something that can be done to make the four times a week trip to the gym a little more exciting? The answer I discovered is music, not the nonsense the gym pounds out hour after hour but music that inspires me to workout at my very best.
Music is often used in a yoga-type setting to calm the participants and aid in relaxation. But you can also arouse your body with the energy of sounds.
So what did I do?
I went out and bought an mp3 player that I could listen to, whenever I wanted and could listen to whatever I wanted. It turns out that this is the best thing I have ever done! I now go to the gym and listen to the music I want and believe me, my workouts now seem to be more enjoyable, while also giving me the feeling that my workouts are doing me more good!
Now, I will presume that most of you reading this already have some kind of portable music player but what about the songs that are on it?

Recent research shows music that is often used in healing, can actually affect your brain wave patterns. I know, it happens to me every week now! It can energize you and put you in a more positive mood (often an outcome of working out in general), which is also hugely beneficial to your health. The more fast-paced the music is, the more of an adrenaline rush you might experience.
I vary the music depending on the type of workout I am doing. What I listen to while biking may be totally different to what I listen to while I am lifting weights. I actually go as far as to coordinate the beats per minute in the song to my own heart’s BPM.
Listening to music whilst working out, distracts me from fatigue and muscle soreness. But most of all, it brings some fun back into my workouts. While the guy or girl next to me is sweating away on a machine, I am there rocking away to my fav tunes.
