weight loss obesity diet diet plan slimming lose weight weight loss

It will I am sure come as no suprise but finally the over enthusiastic claims that were made by Coca-Cola and Nestle regarding the true benefits of drinking their ‘wonder’ carbonated green tea beverage Enviga have been brought to book.
Following court action across 26 States regarding spurious claims of the effectiveness of Enviga for weight loss, Coca Cola and Nestle have been forced to reach a settlement payout of $650,000.
It was claimed in that just by drinking Enviga it was possible to Lose weight and this was deemed to be misleading at best and in fact totally untrue.
This judgement will mean that in future Enviga will be required to make disclosures that make any suggestions as to alleged miracle weight loss effects of the product.
So for example if terms such as “calorie burner” or “negative calories” are used in their marketing they will be required to make a clear disclaimer that the product does not produce weight loss without diet and exercise.
Suprise, Suprise!
But it would appear that the true effect of such a ruling may only be of limited as people seldom read such warnings.
For example most wonder pills and supplements currently available are not licensed by the FDA and yet still they are sold in their billions.
Reality is…
The diet pill and supplement industry is worth many billions of dollars and much of it’s sucess being due to the promise of instant effortless weight loss. The most obvious example of an effortless weight loss pill is Hoodia and yet there is almost no independent evidence to back up any of the claims made.
The reason for their massive success is down to basic human nature… few people like the idea of actually doing something to lose weight.
After all how effective is The Surgeon Generals statements on cigarettes has been on reducing the number of smokers and at what cost?
Even the FDA licensed Alli (orlistat) has stated clearly on it’s packet that on it’s own it will have minimal effect.
From where I am standing hitting a huge company alliance like Coca-Cola and Nestle in their corporate pocket was more about sending a message.
After all such a court settlement which although substancial is of minimal significance to such a huge organization.
Let’s hope the FDA start to clamp down on the many spurious and unsubstanciated claims of other “wonder drugs” soon.
