Lower cholesterol level naturally and you will proportionally reduce the risk of having heart attack, stroke and other vascular related diseases. This can be achieve with lifestyle changes and/or medications but I still believe the best option is to lower cholesterol naturally.
The majority of the medical treatments for high cholesterol,  usually targeted  lowering the level of bad cholesterol or LDL cholesterol in the body. But for some, the combination of both lowering the bad cholesterol and increasing the level good cholesterol the HDL cholesterol may be a viable option. Lets look at these options and how they work and then compare them with lowering cholesterol naturally.

The first thing that will happen if you suspect you may have high cholesterol levels which need to be lowered either naturally or via drug therapy is your doctor wll determine your current cholesterol levels.

This can be done in the doctors office through a simple blood test where your total cholesterol level and cholesterol ratio will be determined. This number will give the doctor an idea how serious the cholesterol problem is and how aggressive the treatment plan should be relative to the problem and how low cholesterol should be based on your medical history.

Once you know your cholesterol levels, one of the first things that your doctor will discuss with you is what you eat on a day to day basis. Often, you will be advised to follow a lower-cholesterol diet that cuts back on bad fats and increases the amount of fresh foods and vegetables that you eat day to day. This can help towards lower cholesterol naturally.

Your doctor will alos suggest some form of exercise, after implementing dietary changes. Higher activities level and exercise will help quickly improve the HDL or good cholesterol level in your body, and as an added bonus you’ll burn off extra calories and shed a few pounds.

If you are unfortunate enough to have a family who have a  medical history that includes coronary artery disease, diabetes, or high blood pressure then these measures will be more urgent than those who do not have issues with their own health or those of immediate family.

At first your doctor will likely prescribe a statin for people who need immediate medication who have dangerously high or potentially dangerously high cholesterol which needs to be lowered.

Statin or more correctly one of range of Statins have an effect of slowing down the production of cholesterol in the body this helps to reduce the likelyhood complications that are associated with high cholesterol by lowering cholestrol levels.

On some occasions doctors may prescribe drugs other than statins. These drugs work differently by preventing or reducing the amount of cholesterol that will be absorbed in your digestive system.

It has been quite widely published that some statins have so quite severe side effects some of the most severe of which are muscle weakness and difficulty with breathing. My wife was prescribed a number of different statins until they found one which suited her. If you are offered a drug which gives you unpleasant side effects speak to your doctor immediately.

By carrying out periodic checks on the cholesterol level your doctor will be able to assess the success of the cholesterol lowering treatment being prescribed.

If you and your doctor have choosen to lower cholesterol by diet and exercise, these test will tell if medication is needed or if the diet and exercise regimen is working alone.

If you are already on medication, these checkups will let your doctor know if the dose of your medication are appropriate or need to be increased or even decreased as a maintainence doseage.

If you have problems maintaining your diet,  your doctor may recommended that you see a dietitian to discuss how things could be improved.
