Last time we spoke about EFA’s and how the body needed them to be able to function effectively (the clue is in the name Essential Fatty Acids). But that’s all well and good but what the heck are EFA’s and how do I get my hands on these guys is a question on everyones lips . Well maybe not everyones but the curious few…

Well lets investigate further by looking at Omega 6 this might be less widely known as Omega 3 but just as important. Omega 6 is found in a range of foods which includes eggs, meat, whole grains, vegetable oils, and even some types of nuts. The nutritionist say that Omega 6 is important to our bodies as it helps keep the brain working well (kind of essential) and also provides other health benefits.

However most also agree we do not need to concentrate on our Omega 6 intake as in a typical diet we already consume too much of it in the form of the various cooking oils we use sunflower oil, corn oil and vegetable oils.

Where as Omega 3 we lack in our diet which is found in fatty fish (sometimes refered to as oily fish) to avoid confusion this means fish like salmon, trout, mackerel, herrings and sardines which very few of us consume enough of.

The benefits of Omega 3 are without doubt and include the lowering of cholesterol, helping prevent arthritis, and they are also believed to help with the treatment and control of depression and mood disorders such as bipolar disorder.

Whilst important few of us get enough Omega 3 and many people now are being encourged to take Omega 3 supplements in the form of fish oil capsules. One of the most popular suppliers being Kirkland Signature Natural Fish Oil Concentrate with Omega-3 Fatty Acids - 400 Softgels
