What few people realize when they go to the store or order diet pills on line is the amazing power of a food dairy and how it could be far more effective at losing weight than any weight loss pill or fad diet.
Keeping a food diary means keeping a detailed account of what you eat and drink and the calories it packs. But don’t worry that much if you haven’t done this before it’s easy cost nothing and is stunningly effective at improving your weight loss.
In a recent study carried out in the US it was found that people who completed a daily food diary were twice as likely to lose weight as those that did not. Just think what that means you double your chances of losing weight just by writing down what you are eating.
This should not be such a shock as many major weight loss programs use a food diary as an integral part of their weight-loss programs. I would go as so far as to suggest if your weight loss program doesn’t either include or mention keeping a food diary you should find a new weight loss program.
It is that simple action of thinking about what you eat as you write it down and calculating the calories consumed that makes keeping a food diary almost essential for any one trying to lose weight.
The key reason for it’s effectiveness is that we rarely think about what we eat and what it might be doing to our bodies which is why so many people have become overweight and obese as more and more unhealthy food options become available.
In fact studies show that people who watch TV while eating are twice as likely to be obese than those that sit at a formal dinning table.
Try this for a week with out the TV on…
Focus on the food, what it looks like and tastes like and you’ll find you will start to realize that you didn’t really know what food tasted like as you have just shoveled it in your mouth while watching TV usually it’s been covered in some sweet tasting sauce that masks the taste of the food.
Now try eating food with out smothering it with ketchup or other bottled sauces and see what it tastes of. Does the meat in the burger taste of beef if not ask yourself why?
When you complete a food diary you start to recognize where the calories are coming from in your diet and how many calories junk food contains often this is the first time you have done this and it acts as massive eye opener.
For example did you know that a BIG Mac in the US contains a whopping 540 calories (it’s actually 600 calories in Mexico) while a deep pan cheese lovers pizza from Pizza Hut tips the scales at a massive 1944 calories (that’s 243 calories a single slice).
What this means is people start to feel guilty when they find that some meals are hundreds if not thousands of calories and they start looking to either reduce portion sizes (a simple and effective way to reduce intake) but also even looking at lower calorie options.
The Dreambody system encourages it’s participants to complete a daily food diary and women have told us by doing so their results have dramatically improved. They spend much more time at the store buying groceries and food for the family and are always considering whether a meal could be less calorific.
Your food diary doesn’t have to be a formal thing just writing it down on a post it note or in a jotter will be more than enough to focus your mind. The best and cheapest way to keep a food diary is to use your PC just set up a document and record what you eat and how many calories it contains.
