If you haven’t discovered Indian cooking then you are missing out on a serious taste sensation. Since living in the UK I have been fortunate to visit some really great Indian Restaurants and there is also an abundance of Indian grocery stores to buy a wide range of spices and other ingredients.
What I found out is that a lot of Indian food is cooked in Ghee (clarified butter) which can make it fattening so you have to be careful but if you portion sizes down it can still be a delicious meal.
One really healthy way of cooking is using a special sort of oven known as a Tandoor which cooks at really high temperatures but I came across this article and thought you probably learn more from an expert…
With an increase in obesity, a healthy and enjoyable alternative is certainly needed to the abundance of fried foods, sweets and sugary sodas that have left us with expanding waist lines and rolls of excess fat round our bellies.
What is needed in our diets are foods that are delicious and filling, yet low in calories and good for our metabolism and fat burning. Nothing fit the bill better than tandoori chicken.
Tandoori chicken is cooked at high temperatures in a tandoor oven. Tandoor ovens are made of clay and can cook with extreme heats up to 900 degrees F.
The tandoor oven produces a very unique and special flavor, which is attributed to the juices of the chicken dropping down on the hot coals. This creates a delicious flavored smoke that will make your taste buds tingle.
Tandoori food is often considered the culinary pride of the people of India and the reasons for this are obvious. It is truly delicious!
You can prepare tandoori chicken for a dinner party or just a snack. Tandoori chicken is fat burning food that will get your metabolism working in high gear.
It is a truly delectable food you can incorporate into any diet or weight loss program, and once you start losing weight while enjoying this amazing food you might just get addicted!
It is a good feeling to enjoy spicy and succulent food with the added reassurance in knowing you will be able to keep in shape and not pile on the pounds that are associated with many other types of cooking.
Every traditional tandoori chicken dish is marinated in a special spicy yogurt. In a large bowl, add 1 cup of yogurt and your tandoori chicken spice. To make traditional tandoori chicken, you want to season your yogurt marinade with tandoori masala spices.
The spices will make the food hot and spicy, and in the United States a milder less spicy marinade is often used.
Next you will want to clean your chicken pieces by washing them off. Use a fork and punch holes into the chicken pieces. This will make the chicken more tender and allow the marinade to absorb into the chicken pieces.
Place your pieces of chicken in a large plastic bag, and pour in your marinade. It is definitely best to let the chicken marinate in the refrigerator overnight, but if you don’t have that opportunity 4 or 5 hours should be enough time to let the chicken absorb the delicious marinade.
Make sure the chicken is sealed air tight in the refrigerator.
It would be a good idea to make several portions of tandoori chicken so you have so there is some left over which you can make more delicious food out of.
There are so many possibilities for healthy and hearty snacks like tandoori chicken soup, sandwiches with whole grain bread and veggies, or you could simply serve the spicy and succulent chicken over whole grain rice. These healthy and filling snacks can be the cornerstone of your weight loss program and I bet you’ll love it!
When cooking tandoori chicken it is best to use a clay tandoor oven. If you want to use authentic tandoor ovens, check out Ron Levy’s website.
