I read an article yesterday that was answering a question of why do people get cramps when on .

All the article could suggest was that the most likely reason was that people that suffered with this was that their previous diet that was and the sudden increase in fiber from the vegetables was causing the cramps.

Yeah, this may be true but was the article missing a very important point?!

You bet, what about wind? Vegetables that are members especially of the cabbage family, like brussel sprouts, cauliflower, broccoli and of course cabbage itself increase dramatically!

Your is one long muscle that rhythmically moves food along for further or absorption. Fiber increases this movement and the lack of fiber slows that movement.

So if the fiber in your diet is suddenly increased, yes you are likely to experience some cramping. What I would suggest though, is a gradual increase of fiber over two or three week period, so that your intestines can adapt.

Of course the original question begs a new question, why go on a vegetable diet at all? If it did work, what would you eat after you ‘finish’ the diet?

If you indeed need to lose weight, follow a balanced diet from each of the Food Guide Pyramid Groups and a lower calorie intake (no lower than 1,200 calories, however).

Vegetables are low in calories and high in vitamins, but by themselves do NOT cause weight loss.

Keep wind free!
