Many people think that losing Weight is a simple fact of getting a diet and not eating very much. This I am afraid to tell could not be any further from the truth the fact is losing weight by dieting just does not work.
Period!
The reason is your body stores fat for times of trouble. Just imagine you knew that food supplies were going to run low in the winter you’d stock up and then ration what you ate wouldn’t you?
Well my dear friend that is what your body does if you stop eating it holds on kicking and screamin to ever last bit of fat …
Like your life depended on it funny thing is in a way it does.
Setting targets or if you prefer to think of them as goals is hardly complicated , but it does require a strong resolve that when push comes to shove many of us lack.
. So you’d be thinking about now , how do I get the necessary resolve to reach my goal. First and most importantly you need to know why you have found it necessary to set a target to lose weight, why do you need to worry yourself about weight loss.
One reason is your Doctor has told you if you don’t you could develop all sorts of illness, Diabetes and manybe even die … Sounds a good enough reason to lose weight you’d think but this is gonna shock you it’s probably the least likely reason you’ll actually quit eating all that junk and start running down the gym.
Now let me give you another senario and well look at that your husband or boyfriend has started looking at younger women and making comments like ”you used to look like that when you were younger”. Or worse still you notice him and you think the same thing.
Well I am betting my next months paycheck that you’ll be getting out the diet books, looking up those exercise DVD’s that have been collecting dust in the back of the cupboard and thowing away all your secret junk food and chocolate stashes before tea time.
Will you stick to a diet …?
Chances are you will as the level of motivation and the rewards make it worth your effort. We are funny creatures as human beings we are easily motivated by reward but not easily motivated by fear or punishment it’s just how we were made.
So when you set goals build in to your plan a system of rewards …
If you lose 5lbs you’ll buy a new top if you lose 10lbs a sassy new LBD you’ve had your eyes on for weeks and if you lose 20lbs you’ll make hubby take you for a romantic weekend.
Ladies take my advice tell a man he is paying for a romantic weekend when you lose 20lbs and you’ll have more help than you ever dreamed possible. Just maybe leave some lingerie lying around in the weekend case and he’ll be down the gym with you, jogging and even preparing your low cal meals. It works for most men they are simple animals and easily led.
