It seems that Canada like many other countries is coming to recognise the fact that obesity is a major problem to address and whilst other potential problems such as bullying and smoking in young people is showing a marked decline the figures for obesity in young people in Canada is still worryingly on the increase.

I am sure I don’t need to remind you that health authorities through out the western world in partiular are expressing deep concerns about the increasing numbers of children and young adults who are obese and I hope that responsible parents will lead by example with sensible eating.

The report compiled by the Public Health Agency of Canada’s report and released this  Wednesday, shows that certain lifestyle behaviours among Canadians in their pre-teen and early-teen years continue to raise concern. It also showed that while more young people are engaging in physical activity than in 2002, the proportion of kids who are overweight or obese has climbed.

Overall, there was a 50 per cent hike in the number of youth’s considered obese (with a body mass index of 30 or more) - to six per cent in 2006 from four per cent in 2002.

The proportion of those considered overweight (BMI of 25-plus) went up among boys, to 20 per cent from 17 per cent, while declining among girls, to 12 per cent from 15 per cent.

Researchers found that having a good family relationship - with strong parental trust and communication - appears to have a significant influence on whether young people engage in healthy or less healthy behaviour.

It would seem that still diet needs to play a major part in a childrens upbringing and it has been shown that children who are obese are more likely to come from parents who pay less attention to their own diets.

So I would ask that you pass on this news to other parents encourage them to take me up on my free copy of Lose 10 Pounds in 2 Weeks weight loss program .

It is with out doubt unless parents do something to reverse the trend that the next generation of adults will be growing up with higher levels of diabetes and other obesity related illness let start to fight back today!
